2021-22 Bundesliga: attendance for Matchday 2 (15,000 spectators on average per game)

Matchday 2 of the 2021-22 Bundesliga season drew an average of 15,000 spectators per match, from Friday 20 to Sunday 22/08/2021. The average fill rate was just 36%.

These very low figures, unusual in the German championship, can be explained by the limited capacities (from 30 to 50% depending on the stadium) imposed by the public authorities in all German regions due to the health crisis relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.

RB Leipzig - VfB Stuttgart (4-0), on Friday 20/08/2021 (kick-off at 20:30 CET), was the match that posted the best attendance on Matchday 2 with 23,100 spectators at the Red Bull Arena, which has had its capacity increased to 47,069 seats for the new season, i.e. a fill rate of 49%.

Bundesliga clubs posted an average of 37,446 spectators per game on Matchday 2 of the 2019-20 season (nearly all of the 2020-21 season took place behind closed doors due to Covid-19), for a fill rate of nearly 86%.
