2021-22 Serie A TIM: attendance for Matchday 1 (11,268 spectators on average per game)

Matchday 1 of the 2021-22 Serie A TIM season drew an average of 11,268 spectators per game, from Saturday 21 to Monday 23/08/2021. The average fill rate was just 28.7%.

These unusually low numbers for the Italian championship can be explained by the restrictions in force in all Italian stadiums due to the health crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. The authorities, through a decree on 22/07/2021, have in fact fixed the capacity of stadiums at 50%, with a checkerboard layout (one seat occupied, one seat empty).

However, this maximum occupancy rate was not reached and more than 60,000 tickets, i.e. nearly 40% of the total available for the 10 matches played, remained unsold according to the Italian daily La Repubblica, which justifies the low demand by the school holidays but above all by the high prices charged by certain clubs for the return of spectators.

FC Inter Milan - Genoa CFC (4-0), on Saturday 21/08/2021 (kick-off at 18:30 CET), was the match that posted the best attendance on Matchday 1 with 27,042 spectators at the San Siro (Milan, ITA), with a capacity of 78,328.
