Release of internationals: LFP protests "extension of international window for CONMEBOL"

"In the wake of the position taken by the World Leagues Forum on 13/08/2021 concerning the extension of international window for CONMEBOL, the LFP regrets the total lack of consideration by FIFA of the interests of national championships and clubs as employers of players," declared the Ligue de Football Professionnel on 26/08/2021.

"This unilateral decision, taken in the midst of a pandemic with strong constraints linked to the travel of players and the resulting quarantine rules when they return from duty, poses major problems for the availability of club staff and the balance of the championships," added the LFP.

"FIFA has decided to extend the September and October 2021 international periods by 2 days to allow CONMEBOL to schedule 3 matches instead of 2. FIFA's unilateral amendments to the calendar and health regulations shall not be imposed on leagues, clubs and players," said World Leagues Forum on 13/08/2021.
