2021-22 LaLiga Santander: attendance for Matchday 3 (an average 12,617 spectators per game)

Matchday 3 of the 2021-22 LaLiga Santander season drew an average of 12,617 spectators per game, from Friday 27 to Monday 29/08/2021. The average fill rate was just 28.4%.

These unusually low figures for the Spanish championship can be explained by the limited capacities imposed by public authorities since the start of the season, in all Spanish stadiums, due to Covid-19.

Although a maximum capacity of 40% was established at national level at the beginning of August 2021, some local authorities have decided to lower this limit even further: 33% in Navarre (Basque Country district), 30% in Catalonia and 20% in the Basque Country (increasing to 30% from Matchday 4). Some stadiums have also had partial capacity restrictions imposed, such as at the Estadio de Mestalla (Valencia CF, 55,000 capacity) where the limit is 15,000 spectators, or at the Campo de fútbol de Vallecas (Rayo Vallecano, 14,505 capacity), which has been limited to 2,000.
