153 stadiums have been built in Europe over the last decade (2010-2020) at a total cost of €19.8bn. The main countries involved are Turkey (28 venues), Poland (23), Russia (16) and England (12). Absent from the Top 10, Italy represents only 1% of these investments, according to the FIGC which presented the 11th edition of its annual ReportCalcio on 26/08/2021.

"Figures highlight the need of starting a process of renovation of sports facilities. In professional football, the average age of venues is between 61 years in Serie A to 63 years in Serie C," said the Italian Federation.

"In the last pre-Covid football season (2018-19), the Serie A TIM generated €300.9m in ticket revenue, compared to €776m for the English Premier League and around €520m for Spain's LaLiga and Germany's Bundesliga," added the FIGC.
