Belgium: Robert Huygens, interim president of the RBFA, confirmed until June 2022

"Robert Huygens, interim president of the Royal Belgian Football Association since 05/06/2021 and the sudden resignation of Mehdi Bayat on 27/05/2021, has been confirmed in his position 'for a short period of one year', until the board of directors holds new elections in June 2022," announced the RBFA on 30/08/2021.

It was the board of the Belgian Football Association that elected Robert Huygens, born on 20/05/1948. In June 2022, all board members will be able to stand for election, including independent directors. "In this way, all statutory risks will be eliminated and the RBFA will have the possibility, for the first time in its history, to elect an independent federal president from June 2022 onwards," stated the federal press release.

Brussels lawyer Paul Van den Bulck, who was appointed as an independent member of the board of directors in June 2021, was not able to stand for election. However, the statutes stipulate that a person must have served for at least one year before being eligible to stand for the presidency.
