Serie A asks FIGC for permission to have fourth shirt sponsor, under number

"We have unanimously adopted a resolution asking the federation to modify Article 72 of the NOIF [the internal rules for the organisation of the federation], corresponding to shirt sponsors, by introducing a new 200 centimetre-square sponsorship space on the back of the shirt, beneath the number", said Maurizio Beretta, president of Lega Serie A (the league that manages the first Italian division), following the ordinary meeting of the federation on 17/07/2014.

This resolution came on a request by SSC Napoli (Serie A), said Pierpaolo Marino, the general director of Atalanta Bergamo (Serie A). The FIGC (Italian federation) authorises only three sponsors, maximum, on the official shirts of each Serie A club, aside from the kit supplier. However, no first division club displayed three brands on their shirts in 2013-14. Amateur clubs are authorised to display five partners on their shirts.
