SL Benfica: a turnover of €94m (-32.8%) and a net loss of €17.4m in 2020-21

SL Benfica (Liga Portugal Bwin) posted a turnover of €94m (excluding player transfers) in the 2020-21 financial year (from 01/07/2020 to 30/06/2021), down 32.8% compared to the 2019-20 financial year (€140m), according to the Lisbon (POR) club on 08/09/2021.

This decline in revenue was due both to the near absence of matchday revenue from a season marked by Covid-19 restrictions - the club collected just over €22m from ticketing in 2019-20 - but more importantly to the drop in the amount paid out by UEFA (-€38m) due to Benfica's elimination from the Champions League before the group stage, which the club had participated in the previous season.

Despite a €100m capital gain on player transfers - the third highest amount ever made by the club over a 12-month period - SL Benfica posted a net loss of €17.4m in the 2020-21 financial year, versus a profit of €41.7m the previous year.
