Social media: Messi's arrival at PSG had more impact than Ronaldo to Manchester United (KPMG)

Since the transfer of Lionel Messi (10/08/2021), Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) have gained 23 million additional cumulative followers on the main social networks (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok and Weibo), versus 9 million for Manchester United FC (Premier League) since the announcement of the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo (27/08/2021), according to data from KPMG Football Benchmark, the international network of audit and consultancy firms' digital business intelligence platform dedicated to football, published on 10/09/2021.

Paris Saint-Germain gained more than 14 million followers across the six main platforms in the five days following the arrival of the Argentina international, compared to just under 5 million additional followers for the English club five days after the transfer of the Portuguese player.

The increase in followers makes the Parisian club the fourth most followed football club in the world with 133 million followers, ahead of Juventus FC (Serie A TIM) and their 116 million fans. Manchester United remain in third place with 169 million…
