World Cup: German Football Association (DFB) opposed to biennial rhythm calls for meeting with FIFA

"With a major tournament (alternating between the World Cup and the Euro) taking place every year and a one-month release period in October (for national team players), the physical and mental strain on national team players would be immense and would lead to a significantly increased risk of injury," said the German Football Association (DFB) during a meeting of its executive committee on 17/09/2021.

"The DFB fully supports UEFA's position that a decision on such an important matter cannot be taken without the consent of the European associations and European football," added the German body, regarding the proposed biennial World Cup defended by FIFA.

The consequences of organising the men's and women's World Cups every two years instead of four at present, is the subject of a feasibility study that the 71^st FIFA Congress decided to launch on 21/05/2021.
