Canal+: acquisition of 70% of SPI International, a media group present in more than 60 countries

"Canal+ Group, via its subsidiary Canal+ International, will acquire a 70% majority stake in SPI International while retaining the current management team and operational structure," announced the French free and pay TV group on 20/09/2021.

SPI International, a Netherlands-based media group founded in 1993, operates 42 TV channels and various digital platforms in more than 60 countries. "The group publishes numerous free-to-air and pay-TV channels in Europe, with key markets being Poland, the Czech Republic, Romania, Serbia, the Netherlands and Russia. SPI is a key player in the audiovisual sector in these countries, with FilmBox as its flagship brand," said Canal+.

"This acquisition will enable the Canal+ group to strengthen its international growth, particularly in Europe. The group is a leading pay-TV operator in Poland and has also owned the platform M7 in eight Central and Eastern European countries since 2019. Canal+ will be able to rely on SPI to complement its existing activities and generate new synergy opportunities," said the French group.
