Sky Bet Championship: Derby County FC enter administration, the EFL announces a 12-point deduction

"The EFL can today confirm that, in accordance with EFL Regulations, a 12-point deduction has been immediately applied to Derby County FC's (Sky Bet Championship) 2021-22 season total. This follows the lodging of the notices of intention to appoint administrators on Friday evening, and the subsequent announcement that the process of appointment was completed earlier today," announced the English Football League in a statement (see below) on 22/09/2021.

In November 2020, it had been agreed that Derby County FC would be taken over by Bin Zayed International LLC (via Derventio Holdings UK Limited), owned by Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Emir's family. An agreement in principle between the seller, English businessman Melvyn Morris, and the Emirati company was announced by the club on 06/11/2020. However, the transaction was ultimately not approved by the EFL.
