Biennial World Cup: "Proper consultation, rather than media announcements needed" (UEFA)

"Proper consultation, rather than media announcements needed on impact and consequences of potential radical move," said UEFA after its executive committee meeting on 22/09/2021, regarding the biennial World Cup project that FIFA has been promoting for several weeks.

The consequences of organising the men's and women's World Cups every two years instead of four at present, is the subject of a feasibility study voted for by 166 votes to 22 at the 71^st FIFA Congress on 21/05/2021. An online summit to which FIFA has invited all member associations and other stakeholders (player, club, league and confederation representatives) is scheduled on 30/09/2021 in order to discuss the men's and women's international calendars, which expire at the end of 2023 and 2024. "We need to make some decisions by the end of the year," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino (ITA/SUI) on 08/09/2021.
