SS Lazio: a turnover of €164.7m (+57.9%) and net loss of €24.2m in 2020-21

SS Lazio (Serie A TIM) posted a turnover of €164.7m for the 2020-21 financial year (01/07/2020 to 30/06/2021), up 57.9% versus 2019-20 (€104.3m), according to the club's financial statement (unaudited) for the season, published on 21/09/2021.

This sharp increase in the Roman club's revenues is explained by two factors:
• the shift of the sporting season beyond the close of the 2019-20 financial year as the Serie A TIM season, suspended in March, eventually resumed in June and ended in early August 2020. The revenues related to the end of the 2019-20 season, especially in terms of sponsorship and TV rights, therefore appear in the accounts for the 2020-21 financial year.
• the club's participation in the group stage of the 2020-21 Champions League (eliminated in the Round of 16).

This last element also explains the increase in expenses, in particular the wage bill, which doubled (+101.2%) with the payment of individual and collective bonuses for qualifying for the Champions League, but also with the recruitment of new players in order to perform well.
