Liga: FC Barcelona's membership down 9.37% , but includes record number of women (39,477, or 26%)

FC Barcelona (Liga BBVA) have 153,458 "socios" or paying member-fans, announced Jordi Cardoner (Catalonia), the club's vice-president for the social area, on 17/07/2014. This is 9.37% less than for the 2013-14 season; the club then had 169,318 members.

39,477 (26%) of FC Barcelona's members are women. This is a record for the club. "Women have been active in the club for many years, but today it is clear," said Cardoner, who is 52.

28.3% of the members had been with the club for more than 25 years. This is the largest segment by membership length, ahead even of the 39,352 members who have paid their dues for less than five years (25.6%). 76% of FC Barcelona's members live in Catalonia, 16% in (non-Catalonian) Spain and 8% elsewhere in the world.

These fans pay €177 per year for this member status, which gives them the right to vote in presidential elections and referendums, discounts for matches of club's basketball section, and free access to the club's football B team (Liga Adelante, Spanish second division).
