Facebook: Dan Reed appointed head of global sports partnerships, effective 01/08/2014

Dan Reed (USA) was appointed head of global sports partnerships of Facebook, effective 01/08/2014. Reed had been the president of the NBA Development League (the National Basketball Association's official minor league organisation in North America) since 2007; his move was confirmed to News Tank by an NBA spokesperson on 23/07/2014.

Dan Reed will work in collaboration with Nick Grudin, the director of partnerships for Facebook. "Dan Reed is a welcome addition to the team, and will build more meaningful connections, conversations and experiences in this area,” said Grudin.

The 20th World Cup's Germany-Argentina final (1-0 aet at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, 13/07/2014) set a new record for a sports game on the social network Facebook with 280m interactions. In total, there were 3bn interactions (posts, comments and likes) on Facebook involving 350m people during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil (from 12/06/2014 to 13/07/2014).
