LaLiga Santander: squad spending limit for the 20 clubs set at €2.277bn (+ 4.4%) in 2021-22

The "squad spending limit" for the 20 LaLiga Santander clubs totals €2.277bn for the 2021-22 season, according to LaLiga, which published the limits imposed on each club in the Spanish championship on its website on 29/09/2021. This cap is 4.4% higher than the last update for the 2020-21 financial year (€2.176bn, March 2021), a growth that is partly explained by the new agreement between the Spanish league and the investment firm CVC Capital Partners signed in August 2021.

Each season, LaLiga sets a maximum squad spending limit for LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank clubs (see below). This includes the salaries of the players, the coach, the assistant coach and the first team physio. The wages of the players in training and the other sections are also included. By "wages", LaLiga means "fixed and variable wages, social security contributions, collective bonuses, acquisition costs (including commission for agents) and amortisations (player transfer fees allocated annually based on the number of years that the player is under contract)."
