AFC Ajax: a turnover of €125.2m (-22.9%) and net loss of €8.1m in 2020-21

AFC Ajax (Eredivisie) posted a turnover (excluding capital gains on player transfers) of €125.2m for the 2020-21 financial year (01/07/2020 to 30/06/2021), down 22.9% versus 2019-20 (€162.3m), announced the Amsterdam (NED) club on 29/09/2021.

""The Coronavirus had a major impact on the 2020-21 season. The majority of matches were played without an audience and this had an impact on the financial result. Ajax achieved sporting success in the 2020-21 season by playing in the group stage of the 2020-21 UEFA Champions League, reaching the quarter finals of the Europa League, winning the KNVB Cup and the national championship," said the Dutch club, whose decrease in revenue is almost exclusively explained by the near complete absence of ticketing revenue (-€40.3m).

AFC Ajax posted a net loss of €8.1m during the 2020-21 financial year, down sharply compared to the previous year's profit of €20.7m. The operating result was -€33.1m, versus a loss ten times smaller in 2019-20 (-€3.1m). Capital gains on player transfers amounted to €86.1m, up very slightly on the previous year (€84.5m).
