Olympique de Marseille reject city's offer of €5m for fixed portion on Velodrome rent

Olympique de Marseille on 25/07/2014 rejected the city's offer to rent them the Stade Velodrome (capacity 67,000) for "a fixed portion of €5m, plus 20% of ticket sales after the first €17.5m, and the application of entertainment tax at 8%".

The offer made by the city and by mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin on 24/07/2014, followed on the club's decision to not play at the Stade Velodrome, and to instead play their first home match for 2014-15 (OM - Montpellier HSC, the second matchday of Ligue 1 on 17/08/2014, 14:00 CET) at the Stade de la Mosson in Montpellier. The municipality says that these are "the same conditions for the use of the Pierre-Mauroy Stadium by LOSC in Lille."

"This is a roundabout way of getting to the same amount [the €8m per year that was originally proposed]. We'll never pay that much. Agreeing to that would be the death of the club. This latest proposal is a dead end. The dialogue has therefore broken down," said Philippe Perez, the CEO of OM, speaking to the newspaper La Provence on 25/07/2014.
