England: EFL launches a programme to support clubs in their efforts to protect the environment

The English Football League (EFL) has launched "EFL Green Clubs", a "new League wide scheme that will help support clubs across the country to improve their environmental practices and operations," announced the body on 11/10/2021. The programme is based on the environmental accreditation scheme "GreenCode", developed by Forest Green Rovers (Sky Bet League Two) and the English environmentalist Dale Vince, owner and majority shareholder of the club (see below), who is also very committed to the fight against climate change.

"With the aim to share that expertise across its 72 members, EFL Green Clubs will include an accreditation scheme that will benchmark clubs environmental rating, provide bespoke guidance and practical advice to help clubs implement change and recognise those that excel in this area. In addition, the EFL Trust, the charitable arm of the EFL, will be putting in place a sustainable development coordinator and will be encouraging all club community organisation's to employ a sustainable development officer," explained the English League.
