European Top 5 attendance: Premier League ahead of Ligue 1, but the other Leagues are bouncing back

With an average attendance of 39,536 spectators per match since the start of the 2021-22 season, the Premier League is currently first among the European Top 5 in terms of stadium attendance, ahead of the Ligue 1 Uber Eats (average attendance of 21,046).

The Bundesliga (17,778 spectators), LaLiga Santander (14,664 spectators) and Serie A TIM (13,275 spectators) have unusually low figures, down by 57%, 49% and 51% respectively compared to the 2019-20 season, the last season in which fans were welcomed without restrictions for the vast majority of matches played.

This unprecedented situation, caused by the partial capacity limits imposed by the public authorities within stadiums in these three countries due to Covid-19, is however changing significantly.

⚽️ In Spain, there is no longer a national limit and Matchday 8 of LaLiga Santander (Friday 01 to Sunday 03/10/2021) saw the beginning of a return to normal posting an average stadium fill rate of 64.7%, a significant increase on previous matchdays (35% on average). Restrictions may still exist locally depending on the level of Covid-19…
