Nigeria: Executive committee sacks federation president Aminu Maigari

Aminu Maigari, president of the NFF (Nigerian Football Federation), was sacked by the federation's executive committee on 25/07/2014. Eight of the 13 members of the executive committee voted for his ouster for "financial misappropriation, misapplication and maladministration".

Mike Umeh, the first vice-president of the NFF, will act as interim president pending elections on 26/08/2014.

Maigari was arrested on 04/07/2014 after having failed to solve a conflict with the players regarding the payment of their bonuses. The Nigerian players had refused to train on 26/06/2014 to protest the non-payment of bonuses prior to the round of 16 fixture of the 2014 World Cup (in Brazil, from 12/06 to 13/07/2014) against France (0-2, on 30/06/2014, in Brasilia).

Maigari was released following the suspension of the NFF for government interference, an action taken by the emergency committee of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) on 09/07/2014. The suspension was lifted on 18/07/2014.
