Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) posted a turnover of €334.2m for the 2020-21 financial year, 2.7 times more than AFC Ajax (Eredivisie) with €125.2m, as the two clubs prepare to face each other in Group C on Matchday 3 of the 2021-22 Champions League at the Johan-Cruijff Arena (Amsterdam, NED) on Tuesday 19/10/2021 (kick-off 21:00 CET).

The German club was ranked 12^th among the "World's Most Valuable Soccer Teams" (excluding real estate) as established by the American business magazine Forbes in April 2021, with a valuation of $1.9bn/€1.6bn, versus 20^th place for their Dutch rivals ($413m/€354m). Borussia Dortmund were also 12^th in the "Football 50 2021" ranking published in May by the American company Brand Finance, a consultancy firm specialised in strategy and brand valuation, compared to 24^th place for Ajax.

With more than 37 million followers on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok, as of 19/10/2021), Borussia Dortmund have 2.6 times as many as the Amsterdam club, who have 14 million.
