France: unsuccessful call for tenders for Euro 2024 & 2028 and national team matches (press)

The call for tenders for the broadcasting rights, in France, of the French national team's football matches, over the 2022-2028 cycle (World Cup and Euro qualifiers, Nations League, friendlies), as well as those for Euro 2024 and Euro 2028, launched by UEFA via the intermediary CAA Eleven, has proved unsuccessful, according to the French sports daily L'Équipe on 20/10/2021.

The broadcasting rights for French national team matches, currently shared by the free-TV groups TF1 and M6, were marketed at €3.5m per match for the 2018-2022 cycle. UEFA has reportedly received offers close to €2.5m per match for the new 2022-2028 cycle, and TF1 and M6 have made separate offers to avoid suspicion of collusion, according to L'Équipe, while the two groups have entered into exclusive negotiations (on 17/05/2021) to merge by the end of 2022 (see related article). The first matches concerned by the 2022-2028 cycle are the first four rounds of the 2022-23 Nations League scheduled between 02 and 14/06/2022.
