Argentina: Luis Segura named interim federation president; elections in October 2014

Luis Segura (ARG), the senior vice president of the AFA (Argentine Football Association), was appointed interim federation president on 30/07/2014. This change follows on the death, on the same day, of Julio Grondona, who was the president since 1979.

"The vice-presidents of the executive committee replace, in case of absence, the president, with the same powers," states article 29 of the statutes of the AFA. Segura, who has also been president of Argentinos Juniors (Argentine second division) since 2002, will be assisted by Juan Carlos Crespi, who became vice-president of the AFA, moving from his position of second vice-president.

"Luis Segura will be president of the AFA until the general assembly in October 2014 to elect a new president," said Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, communications director of the AFA, on 30/07/2014 .

The president elected in October 2014 will fill the role until 25/10/2015, when Grondona's ninth four-year term had been set to end. After this date, new elections for a president to serve a term of four-year term will organised in accordance with Article 25 of the…
