Twitter: Turnover, losses and users have all risen as of 30/06/2014

The social network Twitter made a turnover of $312m (€232.8m) in the second quarter of 2014, a 124% increase in one year (versus $139.3m, €104m), the company reported on 29/07/2014. Twitter, headquartered in San Francisco (California, United States), had a net loss of $145m (€108.2m) on 30/06/2014, three times higher than the previous year (€31.3m).

Twitter explained this loss by the payment of $158m (€118m) to the stock options holders on its staff (Twitter came onto the New York stock exchange on 07/11/2013), as well as the continuation of investments in its platform and acquisitions. Twitter's annual net loss in 2013 was $645m (€482m). The company has not shown a profit since its founding on 19/04/2007.

During the first half of 2014, Twitter's turnover was at $562.7m (€420m), or 2.2 times that of the previous year ($253.6m, €189.4m). The half-yearly net loss was $277m (€207m), four times more than at the end of the first half of 2013 ($69.3m, €51.8m).
