FIGC: FFF, supporting FIFA, calls for investigation into Carlo Tavecchio's racist remarks

Noël le Graët, president of the FFF (French Football Federation), sent a letter to Joseph Blatter, the FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) president, on 29/07/2014, in support of the international body, which asked the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) on 28/07/2014 to investigate and adjudicate the allegedly racist remarks made by Carlo Tavecchio on 25/07/2014.

Carlo Tavecchio, the president of the Lega Dilettanti (the national Italian amateur football league) is the favourite for the election to the presidency of the FIGC, which will be held on 11/08/2014. Tavecchio, 71, compared African footballers to "banana eaters" during a speech at the assembly of Lega Dilettanti on 25/07/2014.

"In England, they identify the players coming in and, if they are professional, they are allowed to play,” Tavecchio said on 25/07/2014. "Here instead we get Opti Pobà, who previously ate bananas and then suddenly becomes a first-team player with Lazio [Serie A]. That’s how it is here. In England, you need to demonstrate what you have on your CV and your pedigree."
