NWSL: Kansas City to build the first stadium dedicated to a women's football franchise in the US

"Kansas City Current (NWSL) and Port KC, the Port Authority of Kansas City, Missouri, finalise plans for the first NWSL purpose-built stadium on the banks of the Missouri River," announced the National Women’s Soccer League on 26/10/2021.

"Kansas City Current owners Angie Long, Chris Long and Brittany Matthews announced plans today to construct the first soccer stadium purpose-built for a NWSL team. The announcement comes just over ten months since the group was awarded a franchise and is the latest in a series of major investments for the team," said the NWSL.

Kansas City Current are competing in the US women's championship for the first time in 2021. The franchise competes at home at Legend Fields, a 10,000-seat arena west of the largest city in the state of Missouri that also hosts baseball games. However, it will move to Children's Mercy Park (18,500 capacity), home of MLS team Sporting Kansas City, in 2022.
