Switzerland: Indicted for fraud, Michel Platini contests "unfounded and unfair accusations"

"I learned through the press of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland's (OAG) decision to send me to trial with the former FIFA President, Mr Sepp Blatter. These methods are a continuation of the OAG's relentless efforts to unduly implicate me in a case in which my complete good faith had been recognised. I fully contest these unfounded and unfair accusations," said Michel Platini, in a statement on 02/11/2021.

Joseph Blatter (SUI), former FIFA president (1998-2015), and Michel Platini (FRA), former UEFA president (2007-2015), were charged with "unlawfully arranging a payment of CHF 2m ( €1.54m at the time of payment) from the FIFA to Michel Platini," according to the indictment filed by the OAG on 02/11/2021.
