"It is impossible to compare us [Liga BBVA] with the Premier League from a commercial perspective. What we are trying to do is get closer to the Premier League," said Javier Tebas, president of the LFP (Spanish Professional Football League), to the British TV channel BBC Sport during the LFP World Challenge on 29/07/2014.

The LFP World Challenge is a pre-season tournament organised by the LFP and the CSD (Spanish Higher Council of Sports), which takes place abroad to promote the "Spanish brand". The tournament takes place over three successive inter-seasons (2014-2017).

The first edition took place from 21/07 to 04/08/2014 with 13 games played in nine countries, notably in the United States, with the San José Earthquakes (MLS, USA) - Atletico Madrid game (0-0, 3-4 pen) at Buck Shaw Stadium (California, USA) on 28/07/2014. "We have been in Asia but right now our aim is to bring more teams from La Liga to this part of the world. We are working on this, it's a long-term project and is why we are here in the United States," said Tebas.
