Premier League: NBC extends broadcasting rights in the USA (2022-2028) for more than $2.5bn

The American media and entertainment conglomerate NBCUniversal, via its subsidiary NBC Sports Group, has extended its exclusive full broadcasting rights to the Premier League in the United States (in English and Spanish) for the 2022-2028 cycle, announced the English League on 18/11/2021.

The value of the contract is said to be worth between $2.5bn (€2.21bn) and $2.7bn (€2.39bn), according to several international media reports, for an average annual fee of between $416m (€367m) and $450m (€398m) over the cycle. This is a record for a Premier League international broadcasting contract and a record for a European football league in the USA.

This record surpasses that of LaLiga in the USA with ESPN, which acquired the broadcasting rights (in English and Spanish language) to LaLiga Santander over the 2021-2029 cycle (eight seasons), on 13/05/2021. The rights were acquired for an estimated $1.4bn (€1.16bn), or an average of $175m per season (€144m), according to US media reports.
