Real Madrid CF: new loan of €225m for the renovation of the Santiago Bernabéu validated by members

"Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander) representative members approved (96.71% votes in favour) the proposal to extend the authorisation for the club's board of directors to take out credit in order to finance the work not initially included in the remodelling of the Santiago Bernabéu (80,000 capacity)," announced the club during its general assembly of delegate members at the Ciudad Real Madrid, on 20/11/2021.

The financial operation consists of a new loan of €225m, which is in addition to a first one of €575m taken out in April 2019 (over 30 years, at a fixed interest rate of 2.5%). The Madrid stadium is currently being renovated. The project includes the installation of a retractable roof, the complete renovation of the exterior façade and the installation of a retractable pitch to accommodate various events (trade fairs, concerts, basketball and tennis matches, etc.). It is the implementation of this last element that explains the need for additional financing compared to the initial project.
