"Football is crying out for a time of renovation and profound change. And Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander) will be at the forefront of that change because we are bound by our history and it is what our fans demand," said Florentino Pérez, president of the Madrid club, during his opening speech at the general assembly of delegate members gathered at the Ciudad Real Madrid, on 20/11/2021.

At the annual general meeting, which saw the club's members approve the accounts for the 2020-21 financial year and the 2021-22 forecast, as well as vote in favour of a new €225m loan to complete the rennovation of the Santiago Bernabéu (see "further reading" section), Florentino Pérez, who was re-elected president for a sixth term on 13/04/2021, spoke about the main challenges facing the club in the next few years.
