Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) posted a turnover of €358.6m for the 2020-21 financial year, 5.5 times more than Sporting Clube de Portugal (Liga Portugal Bwin) with €64.4m, as the two clubs prepare to face each other in Group C on Matchday 5 of the 2021-22 Champions League at the José Alvalade Stadium (Lisbon, POR), on Wednesday 24/11/2021 (kick-off at 21:00 CET).

Borussia Dortmund was ranked 12^th among the "World's Most Valuable Soccer Teams" (excluding real estate) as established by the American business magazine Forbes in April 2021, with a valuation of $1.9bn/€1.6bn. The German club was also 12^th in the "Football 50 2021" ranking published in May by the American company Brand Finance, a consultancy firm specialised in brand strategy and valuation. The Lisbon club, on the other hand, was absent from these two rankings.

With more than 41.2 million followers on social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and TikTok, as of 24/11/2021), Borussia Dortmund have 8.5 times as many as their Portuguese rivals, who total nearly 4.8 million.
