European Parliament: MEPs adopt resolution on the "European sports model"

The European Parliament has adopted the resolution on the "European Sports Model" entitled "EU sports policy: assessment and possible ways forward" (document available to download) with 597 votes in favour, 36 against and 55 abstentions, announced the EU's legislative body on 23/11/2021.

"MEPs want European sporting culture to be aligned with EU values of solidarity, sustainability, inclusiveness for all, open competition, sporting merit and fairness. Parliament strongly opposes “breakaway competitions” that undermine these principles and endanger the stability of the overall sports ecosystem," explained the Strasbourg-based institution, thus taking a stand against the European Super League project presented by 12 major European clubs on 18/04/2021 (see also "further reading" section).
