Biennial World Cup: unanimous vote from 52 African member associations in favour of the project

"The 52 members of the Confederation of Africa Football have unanimously voted to support the proposal for a biennial FIFA World Cup," announced CAF on 26/11/2021. 

The vote took place during CAF's 13^th extraordinary general assembly, held in Cairo (Egypt), in the presence of Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of FIFA, Patrice Motsepe (RSA), president of CAF, and the presidents of CAF's member associations.

The African body is the first confederation to officially and publicly approve FIFA's plan to stage a World Cup every two years.

The 211 national member associations will meet during a global summit by videoconference on Monday 20/12/2021 "to discuss the future of football after receiving a detailed update on the ongoing consultation process on the topic," announced FIFA on 20/10/2021.
• At the heart of the discussions will be the project for a biennial World Cup from 2026, alternating with competitions at continental level (Euro, Copa America, African Cup of Nations, etc.).
• No vote will be taken at the end of this World Summit.
