FC Bayern Munich: club's member supporters call for end of partnership with Qatar Airways

Supporter members of FC Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) have called for the end of the partnership between the club and the airline Qatar Airways, a company owned by the State of Qatar, during the club's annual general meeting on 25/11/2021.

77.8% of the Bavarian club's fan members (out of 290,000 registered) attempted to pass a motion to prevent the renewal of the sponsorship agreement which has been in force since 20/02/2018 and will expire on 30/06/2023. The annual value of the partnership is estimated at €20m.

"Qatar is guilty of massive human rights violations, and there are strong suspicions of corruption in sport. We want to obtain preventive measures, to avoid a renewal of the contract," said Michel Ott, spokesman for Bayern Munich's socios, at the AGM. The protesters are basing themselves on NGO reports that accuse Qatar of exploiting foreign workers, particularly regarding the construction of the FIFA 2022 World Cup stadiums.
