Argentina: Luis Segura named federation president through 25/10/2015

Luis Segura (ARG) was unanimously elected president of the AFA (Argentine Football Federation) through October 2015 by the federation's executive committee, on 08/08/2014. Segura, the vice-president of AFA from 2011 to 2014, had been the interim president since the death of Julio Grondona on 30/07/2014. Grondona had been the president of the AFA since 1979.

Segura, who is also president of Argentinos Juniors (the Argentine second division), was initially scheduled to finish as interim president of the AFA in October 2014, when the general assembly would elect a new president, according to Ernesto Cherquis Bialo, AFA's communications director, on 30/07/2014.

The AFA's executive committee decided to extend Luis Segura's mandate as president of the AFA until 25/10/2015, when Grondona's ninth four-year term had been set to end. After this date, new elections for a president serving a four-year term will be organised in accordance with article 25 of the AFA statutes.
