Premier League: Manchester City and Sony to offer a virtual stadium experience within the metaverse

Sony Group Corporation, a Japanese multinational company specialised in electronics and entertainment (telephony, computers, video games, music, cinema, audiovisual, etc.), has become the "virtual fan engagement partner" of Manchester City FC (Premier League) from 2021-22, announced the club on 30/11/2021.

"The aim of this collaboration is to create a global online fan community where fans can interact with the club and each other within an online 'metaverse' which will be a virtual recreation of the Etihad Stadium (55,097 capacity)," explained the Mancunian club. This is Sony's first sports partnership dedicated to operations within a virtual world (the metaverse).

"The club will conduct a PoC (proof of concept) with Sony, which will leverage Sony's ground-breaking technologies and City's global fanbase to develop new forms of digital content," added Manchester City.

"Sony will support Manchester City to further increase the value of its content and engagement with its fans around the world," said Toshimoto Mitomo, officer in charge of intellectual property and business incubation…
