Ligue 2 BKT: "89% of players against a move to 18 clubs, demand explanations" (UNPF)

"A consultation organised by the UNFP has shown that 89% of Ligue 2 BKT footballers are not in favour of a move to 18 clubs (instead of 20) in their division," announced the French National Union of Professional Footballers on 30/11/2021.

78% of Ligue 2 clubs, gathered within the "Collège de Ligue 2", a body belonging to the Ligue de Football Professionnel chaired by Christian Leca (AC Ajaccio) bringing together the 20 clubs participating in the French second division, voted, on 15/11/2021, in favour of an 18-club Ligue 2 from the 2024-25 season. Only four clubs voted against.

The Collège de Ligue 2 "may formulate any resolution on matters submitted to the LFP's ordinary general assembly for consideration," states article 5 of its the body's regulations (document available to download in French).

The LFP voted to reduce the number of Ligue 1 clubs from 20 to 18, from the 2023-24 season, at its general assembly on 03/06/2021. This change received 97.28% of the votes, with only FC Metz (Ligue 1 Uber Eats) voting against.
