CONMEBOL: Eugenio Figueredo (URU) leaves presidency, becomes FIFA vice-president

Eugenio Figueredo (URU) stepped down as president of CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) and became a vice-president of FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), announced the CONMEBOL executive committee, meeting in Luque (Paraguay) on 08/08/2014.

Eugenio Figueredo, 82, is succeeding Julio Grondona (ARG), who died on 30/07/2014, as a vice-president of FIFA. He will hold this post until the next FIFA annual congress on 29/05/2015, in Zurich (SUI), said CONMEBOL.

It is Cameroon's Issa Hayatou, the president of CAF (Confederation of African Football) and a vice-president of FIFA, who will succeed Julio Grondona as the senior vice-president of FIFA, as he has seniority in the role of vice-president. The senior vice-president's role includes representing the president until the next congress if the president "is permanently or temporarily unable to perform his duties" (article 30, paragraph 6 of the FIFA regulations).
