FIGC: Carlo Tavecchio elected to presidency with 63.63% of votes in third round

Carlo Tavecchio was elected president of the FIGC (Federazione Italiana di Giuoco Calcio, the Italian Football Federation) at the elective assembly on 11/08/2014 in Rome (ITA).

He obtained 63.63% of votes in the third round. His opponent, Demetrio Albertini, had 33.95%, and there were 2.42% blank ballots.

278 delegates were invited to elect the new president of the FIGC. Two candidates had filed applications at least two weeks before the election, as provided for by the regulations: Carlo Tavecchio, 71, the president of the Lega Dilettanti (Amateur Football League) and vice-president of the Federation since 2007, and the former international midfielder Demetrio Albertini, 43, also a vice-president of the FIGC.

Giancarlo Abete had been the president of the FIGC since 02/04/2007 and announced he was leaving his post on 25/06/2014, following the elimination of Italy in the group stage of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

As one of his first decisions Carlo Tavecchio will appoint a new manager to succeed Cesare Prandelli as the manager of the Italian national team.
