Biennial World Cup: World Leagues Forum calls for "an unambiguous abandonment of the FIFA project"

"The Professional Leagues request FIFA to unequivoqually abandon the biennial World Cup project," following the annual meeting of the World Leagues Forum on Friday 03/12/2021.

"This biennial World Cup is unwanted by fans and would destroy value for football at every level. Moreover, no decision on the match calendar can be made without the agreement of the leagues, their member clubs and the players that provide the foundations for football," said Enrique Bonilla (MEX), president of the WLF, on 03/12/2021.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the assembly of the World Leagues Forum was held both in person in London (ANG) and via video conference.

"The World Leagues Forum, which represents 40 professional football leagues around the world, has renewed its management board for 2022 with Enrique Bonilla (Liga MX) as chairman, and with Don Garber (Major League Soccer) and Richard Masters (Premier League) as the two vice-chairmen," said the body.
