Italy / Covid 19: the FIGC lost 23% of its licensees in 20 and a half months (30/06/2019-15/03/2021)

"Between 30/06/2019 and 15/03/2021 (in 20 and a half months), the FIGC has lost more than 23% of its licensees, or nearly 245,000 players, while the potential for professional football spectators lost due to closed-door matches is over 22.1 million for 2019-20 and 2020-21," announced the Italian Football Federation in its Integrated Report 2020 presented in Rome (ITA) on 02/12/2021 (document available to download, see below).

Over the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, the Covid-19 pandemic had an estimated net impact of over €1.1bn on Italian professional football. At the indirect and induced level, the impact of football on Italy's GDP is down by 18%, with a decrease of more than 27,000 jobs, despite the four Euro 2020 matches held at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, according to the FIGC's annual report.

The Integrated Report 2020 also highlights the development of women's football: in 11 years, from 2008-09 to 2019-20, the number of women's licensees has increased by 66.5%, from 18,854 to 31,390.
