Ligue 1: 2013-14 season saw security incidents down 1.9%, arrests down 10% (LFP)

Levels of violence and prohibited activity in and around French stadiums remained stable, with 304 incidents in Ligue 1 in 2013-14, versus 310 in 2012-13 (i.e., a drop of 1.9%), according to the security monitoring department of the LFP (French Professional Football League), which is known as the "Observatoire de la sécurité des affluences et recettes du football professionnel".

The number of arrests was down 10% (641 in 2013-14, versus 710 in 2012-13). 65% of security incidents resulted in an intervention by the police or stadium security in 2013-14, versus 63% in 2012-13.

Security incidents occurred during 46.5% (or 177) of the Ligue 1 matches according to the security monitoring department. The proportion of the recorded incidents occurring inside stadiums is similar in Ligue 1 (85%) and Ligue 2 (88%).

Of the 304 security incidents reported in 2013-14, 139 (45%) concern the use of pyrotechnics, 22 concern thrown projectiles, 17 were cases of alcohol intoxication in a sports arena, 17 were uses of lasers and 15 concerned black market ticket sales. Eight fights between supporters…
