AFCON 2021: CAF, Fecafoot and Cameroon prepare for the competition which begins on 01/09/2022

"There is a lot of work that is being done. We have to continue with the same momentum. We cannot rest. We have to work around the clock. We want to see a great TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations here in Cameroon in January next year (from 09/01 to 06/02/2022)," announced Veron Mosengo-Omba, general secretary of CAF, in Yaoundé (CAM) on 15/12/2021.

The general secretary of the Confederation of African Football met with Manaouda Malachie, Cameroon's Minister of Public Health on 14/12/2021 to discuss the "sanitary approach and Covid19 protocols. The meeting ironed out a number of details. CAF and Cameroon government reached common ground on the approach to the competition in January. Details and outcome of these discussions will be revealed later this week," said CAF.

The African body made no mention of the rumours of the cancellation of the competition nor of a hypothetical relocation to Qatar due to the pandemic.
