37,000 tickets have been sold for the opening match of the 2014-15 German Handball Championship, in which HSV Hamburg will play Rhein Neckar Löwen on 06/09/2014, announced the HBL (Handball Bundesliga, the German Handball League) on 13/08/2013. This meeting will take place at Commerzbank Arena (capacity 50,300), the stadium of Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga).

This match is thus expected to break the world record for attendance for a handball game (36,651 spectators watched Copenhagen-Silkeborg at Parken in Copenhagen for the Dutch Championship final on 21/05/2011).

The record attendance for a Division 1 (French handball championship) match goes to HBC Nantes-Paris Saint-Germain Handball (30-26), which had 9,357 spectators on 12/12/2013 in Halle XXL of the Parc des Expositions de la Beaujoire (Nantes).

The 2013-14 season of Division 1 had an average attendance of 2,504 spectators and an average occupancy rate of 84%.
