Biennial World Cup: "An additional $4.4bn in revenue from first four-year cycle" (G.Infantino, FIFA)

"We have been advised by independent experts that a switch to a switch to a biennial FIFA World Cup would provide a combined additional $4.4bn (€3.9bn) in revenue from the first four-year cycle, with these funds being distributed across our 211 member associations," said Gianni Infantino (ITA/SUI), FIFA president, during the Global Summit held by videoconference on 20/12/2021.

"This additional revenue would allow solidarity funding to move from the current level of $6m (€5.3m) per cycle (€1.3m per year) to up to potentially $25m (€22.2m, or €5.5m per year) on average per FIFA member association in the first four-year cycle, with the actual distribution being subject to FIFA's governance principles," added the president of the global body.

According to two feasibility studies conducted by independent entities (Nielsen and OpenEconomics), biennial men's and women's World Cups would have many positive economic repercussions for the 211 member associations, according to FIFA, which presented them at the Global Summit.
