Premier League/Covid-19: Matchdays 19, 20 and 21 to be maintained during the holiday period

"While recognising a number of clubs are experiencing Covid-19 outbreaks and challenges, it is the League's collective intention to continue the current fixture schedule where safely possible," announced the Premier League, following a meeting of its clubs on 20/12/2021.

England is currently experiencing a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases due to the outbreak of the Omicron variant in the country. The number of positive cases is increasing among players and staff of the various Premier League teams (see below), which have been forced to postpone a total of 10 games over the last three matchdays (including six on Matchday 18). The question of postponing the traditional 'boxing day' (9 games on Matchday 19 on 26/12/2021) as well as the following matches held over the festive period until Monday 03/01/2022 (Matchdays 20 and 21) has therefore been raised.
