"As i said to the federations, we will take the time to come to some conclusions. It is important to analyse. We just finished a feasibility study (for a biennial World Cup) of over 700 pages. There is a lot of opposition, there are also a lot of voices in favour. The World Cup every two years is only part of the project, we are speaking about a new international calendar, youth, men's and women's football," said Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of FIFA, after the Global Summit held by videoconference on 20/12/2021.

"133 countries out of 211 (63%) have never participated in the World Cup. With 48 participants (from 2026 onwards), it will allow more teams to have a chance to go to the World Cup.
