"As i said to the federations, we will take the time to come to some conclusions. It is important to analyse. We just finished a feasibility study (for a biennial World Cup) of over 700 pages. There is a lot of opposition, there are also a lot of voices in favour. The World Cup every two years is only part of the project, we are speaking about a new international calendar, youth, men's and women's football," said Gianni Infantino (ITA-SUI), president of FIFA, after the Global Summit held by videoconference on 20/12/2021.

"133 countries out of 211 (63%) have never participated in the World Cup. With 48 participants (from 2026 onwards), it will allow more teams to have a chance to go to the World Cup. If a nation can play the World Cup more often, it will do something for its football: the quality of the national team is linked to the quality of education in the country," explained Arsène Wenger, chief of global football development at FIFA, to France Info on 19/09/2021.
